How is this a store? Firstly, the liquor section is outstanding. Good prices, great selection, and they have those lovely beers from New Glarus that Illinois doesn’t have. Also lower taxes. You do have to make your liquor purchases within the liquor store, kind of like at Wally’s if you’re familiar with that setup, but you can keep it with you if you go to the liquor first, then the groceries.
This store is huge and seems as though it goes on and on and on. It kind of does. The aisles are also really wide, and you can prance down the middle of them, feeling super self-important when it’s not crowded. Or that’s just me, who knows? With a veg. companion, I was pleasantly surprised by their wide selection of vegetarian items including the Better Than Bouillon No-Beef broth that I’m always hunting for. In fact they had pretty much every flavor of BTB, even lobster. They have tons of hard to find items, so much cheese you’ll freak out, and my favorite brand of pickles. I love you Woodman’s.
Though they don’t take credit cards, they do take debit, so you don’t necessarily have to roll up with a briefcase full of hundos, though that might be fun. My briefcase would have only one in it, so that would be sad. Also, remember where you parked your car. If you go in on the liquor side and come out on the grocery side, you might have a panic attack thinking that your car was stolen or that you got towed for your bad parking job. Again, maybe that’s just me.

Woodman’s is definitely not just your average grocery store – it’s definitely a shopping experience. Expect to spend a long time on your first visit to really see all it has to offer – their frozen treat / ice cream aisle is probably worth 30 minutes alone!
The biggest warning is that they do NOT accept credit cards (but they do accept debit cards). They do have ATMs, in case you forget and there are signs posted … though I’m still amazed people miss this when standing in line…
I love their frozen vegetarian section, probably the largest I’ve seen. They keep adding to it and now their gluten-free and organic sections next to it are expanding rapidly too. Again, definitely hit the ice cream aisle!
Be aware that the liquor section isn’t in the main superstore, it has a shared entrance on the south side of the building (facing Highway 50) and you’ll have to buy any liquor in that ‘store’ separate from any grocery area purchases. However, if you just need some booze and chips, the liquor area has a small selection of chips and frozen pizza. Liquor area, is definitely worth a visit too – wide variety beyond typical grocery liquor offerings.
Aisles are super-wide too, but once you reach the end of an aisle, be careful – people dart out and over quickly … gets a little crazy sometimes. :D. They are open 24 hours, but customers get a little odd in the early morning hours (between midnight and dawn). Parking lot seems a little freaky during these same hours.

I love Woodman! They have the best shrimp, 16/20 shrimps only 19 bucks everyday!
Dominick’s, Jewel sold it for 50 bucks the same thing!

This grocery store is fantastic- it seems to have everything my crazy Vegetarian Times recipes call for and the prices are great.
I never wanted to come here because they don’t take credit cards, but my husband stopped here once and it was so awesome he made me go back with him.
Their produce prices are phenomenal. Especially if you shop early in the morning and can get the “bags”. In the front, by the old self check-outs are shopping cards with discount stuff. Sometimes that discount stuff is awesome produce. When new produce comes in, they bag up the old stuff and for $.79, you get a ton of produce. I am talking 12 red peppers or 3 lbs of tomatoes or 12 avocados. Seriously awesome. They have a similar section in the end of the refrigerated section.
Also, their cheese department is awesome- so many different varieties (like extra-extra sharp cheddar!)
I don’t entirely know what “Employee Owned” means, but it seems like a good thing to me. The workers seem as content as workers in a grocery store who have to deal with obnoxious customers can be.

I love Woodman’s. I haven’t found another grocery store that holds a candle to it. They have everything you could possibly think of needing. Looking for some obscure candy you don’t think is in production anymore? They have three isles of candy. How about those Arnold Palmer’s that are typically $1/can at the gas station? They’re 67 cents here. Almost everything is way cheaper than at you would find at your typical Jewel or Dominick’s. Just make sure you have your debit card handy because they don’t take credit.

Woodman’s is great. They have everything, and the prices are unbeatable. The produce selection is fantastic, and we find ethnic food here that’s tough to find at decent prices anywhere else…
